Robert 'Ralph' Mattingly

Robert "Ralph" Mattingly, 75, of Middletown, passed away Friday, July 28, 2006 at his home. He was born in Middletown on March 18, 1931 to parents Robert & Breelie (Lindon) Mattingly. Ralph was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 36 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. Ralph was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, with an unswerving commitment to family. He was good-hearted and good-natured, and was often called the "life of the party". His trademark smile revealed his kind and gentle character that never went unnoticed by all who knew him well. In his younger years, Ralph was an avid athlete and softball player. He taught and coached his children and grandchildren in all sports with incredible enthusiasm. The void created by Ralph's absence will be profoundly felt by all who were accustomed to the abundant love and generosity of spirit that he showered on everyone who knew him. Ralph is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Mary (Wikel) Mattingly; his son Jeff (Patty) Mattingly of Naperville, Illinois; daughter Terri Daley of Middletown; son Victor (Leanne) Mattingly of Nashville, TN; brother Roger Mattingly of Middletown; sisters Maxine McLean of Middletown, Margie Taylor of Hamilton, and Tootie Lampl of Lebanon; and seven grandchildren, Kathryn, Martha, & Sarah Mattingly, Nicklaus & Keeton Daley, and Samuel & Grace Mattingly. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray Mattingly; and sisters Lillian Combs & Margaret Peck.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 11:00 am at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.) Middletown, with Reverend Daniel Dawson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum.
