Thomas A. "Tom" Smith, 85, of Madison Township, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Middletown on January 10, 1941 to parents, Harrison G. and Grace R. (Swafford) Smith.
Tom worked as a repairman for Sears for over 40 years, retiring in 2002. He had a gift for fixing things and was the "greatest handyman that ever lived". Tom loved being outdoors, especially at his cabin, or just camping in general, where he enjoyed spending time fishing and sitting by the campfire. He also enjoyed traveling. Above all else, Tom loved his family and loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Nancy C. (Riddell) Smith; daughter, Missy (Tony) Smith Tincher; son, John (Jamie) Smith; grandchildren, Amber Hering, Ashley (Tommy) Wallen, Tessa Tincher, Chris Smith & his best friend, Tucker, Matt Smith & Timmy (Alexis) Smith; great grandchildren, Juniper, Paige, Honorleigh, Alaric & Landen; sisters, Barbara Lewis & Rhonda (Arnold) Fugate; and several nieces, nephews, other extended family & friends
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Elbert Smith & Wayne Harrison Smith; baby sister, Sylvia Jean; father & mother-in-law, William & Letta Riddell; and sister-in-law, Patty Locke.
Funeral Service will be Monday, February 2, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown, with Pastor Don Shepherd officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Madison Township.
