Robert C. Cordray

Robert C. Cordray, 86, of Middletown, Ohio, died Sunday, November 10, 2002, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Canton, Ohio on March 14, 1916 to parents Robert and Hazel (Hayhurst) Cordray. Robert served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and served in Military Intelligence.

Bob attended Miami University. He was in the hotel management business during the 50´s and came to Middletown in 1955 where he was News Director for WPFB for 16 years. He joined the realtor business at Dorsey Shepard in June of 1971 and was general manager at Dorsey Shepard Realtors. He then joined Courtney Duff & Associates, where he was Vice-President from 1980 until his retirement this year.

Bob was past president of the Board of Deacons at First Presbyterian Church, Lincoln School P.T.O., Middletown Kiwanis Club and past president of sales associates division-Middletown Board of Realtors. He also has been past member of the Middletown Chamber of Commerce Board, YMCA Board, Middletown Board of Education, Middletown Park Board, Middletown Red Cross Board, Boy Scout Board of Directors, and Middletown Senior Citizens Board. He has attended OAR conventions for 20 years. Bob has also been past president of Ohio Junior Miss, and was the voice of the Ohio Junior Miss for over 30 years. He was involved with Junior Achievement, and was very active with DeMolay on both local and state levels. He was awarded DeMolay Honorary Legion of Honor, DeMolay Cross of Honor, Jaycee Distinguished Service Award, and MBR Realtor of the Year Award. He was also Master of Ceremonies for 41 local charity balls.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a loving, caring, and devoted husband and father who leaves his wife since 1941, Mary Aleen (Gurr) Cordray;one son: Robert C. “Corky” (Betty Lou) Cordray II of Butler, PA; one sister: Marilyn (Virgil) Lilley of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; grandson, Robert C. (Beth) Cordray III of Alexandria, VA; grandson, Alan Craig Cordray of Ocean City, MD; grandson, Bradley James Cordray of Orlando, FL.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 14, 2002 at 10:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tom Ramsey officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 13, 2002 from 5-9 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, OH. Masonic services conducted by Lincoln Lodge #693, and Scottish Rite ring services will be Wednesday evening at 8:00 PM. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Brookville, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Mid-Miami Healthcare Foundation Robert C. Cordray Nursing Education Cardiology Fund, c/o Middletown Regional Hospital, 105 McKnight Dr., Middletown, OH 45044.
