In loving memory of Richard Kevin Rainey, a devoted husband, father, son, the best papaw, brother, and friend. Richard peacefully departed this world on October 30th, 2024, after a courageous battle with health issues.
Richard was born on July 31st, 1957 to Bill and Joan (Koch) Rainey. He grew up in Lebanon, Ohio and was a graduate of Lebanon High school and attended Sinclair Community College. Richard was a volunteer firefighter until he was hired onto the Middletown Division of Fire in 1979. He devoted 30 years to the fire service where he was known as “Captain Richie” to many. He loved his brothers and sisters in the fire service dearly and enjoyed their visits over the last few weeks tremendously.
Richard is survived by his wife Connie (Wireman) Rainey of 41 years. Richard and Connie created a wonderful life together. A life full of love, travel and devotion to their family. Richard is also survived by his two children Heather (Seth) Darrell and Joe (Morgan) Rainey. Richard was the papaw to 5 grandbabies that absolutely lit up his life: Owen, Eliana, Emery, Remington and baby JoAnna who he will get to hold in heaven before the rest of us do.
Richard was a man of great unwavering faith. He was active in the church throughout much of his adult life. He assisted his wife in youth ministry at God’s Lighthouse for many years as well as served as Trail Life Chaplain. His kindness and devotion to his family and friends created a bond that will never be broken.
In addition to his immediate family who were by his side during his passing were his sister Nickie Rainey and brother in law Johnny Wireman both of whom were such an important part of his life.
Richard also leaves behind two dear friends who have been there for him all throughout his life: John Eve and Jeff Moore.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Ova and Mary (Butler) Wireman and his grandbaby JoAnna. Ova was a pillar of strength in Richard’s life and they had many porch visits together and we know they are rejoicing in heaven.
Richard only wanted a private viewing as he did not want anyone to mourn the departure of his soul from this world, but rather wanted everyone to rejoice his entrance into the arms of his Savior. Throughout his health battle his faith and praise for his God remained strong.
A public burial where friends and loved ones can gather to honor his memory will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 12:00 noon at North Monroe Cemetery (Section 19), 301 N. Main St, Monroe, Ohio.
As we remember Richard, let us carry forward his spirit of love, service, and joy in our hearts.
