Paul J. South, 67, of Middletown, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at his residence. He was born in Middletown on June 8, 1958, to parents, Roger D. and Barbara (Piedel) South.


Paul worked as a clamp truck operator for Akers Packaging, retiring in 2024 after 46 years with the company. He was a big sports fan and greatly enjoyed coaching his son, Adam's football teams. "Coach South" had previously coached football for K of C/CYO football, then coached football for the John XXIII Knights. Paul loved scouting football games with his dad for Fenwick High School for many years. He enjoyed listening to music and going to many concerts. Paul was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his family, watching his nieces and nephews grow up and attending all of their sporting events. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit.


Paul is survived by his wife, Sharon G. (Leach) South; son, Adam South; granddaughter, Lily Lou Burleson; sister, Barb Robertson; sister-in-law, Julie South; mother & father-in-law, Kay & Dan Leach; aunt, Deborah Robinson; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.


In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, R. David South, Jr.
