Michael Paul Ploetz, age 75, of Middletown, Ohio passed away on December 19, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 12, 1948 in Mariemont, Ohio, the son of Robert and Jean (Peter) Ploetz.
Mike attended Brunnerdale Seminary High School in Canton, Ohio and received a BA degree from Saint Joseph College in Rensselaer, Indiana. He taught elementary school Science and Reading, worked as a technical writer at Nutone and held numerous manufacturing positions from machinist to mechanic, production supervisor, production engineer and environmental coordinator while working at Georgia Pacific, Pease Windows, Southwest Ohio Steel and Worthington Industries. He retired in 2014 from Southwest Ohio Air Pollution Control Agency (EPA) where he was a Compliance Specialist.
He married Deborah Hosman on August 30, 1996, and is survived by her. He is also survived by his children Emily Frankl, Thomas (Becky Hopewell) Ploetz, Stephanie (Matt) Makepeace and Deb’s daughter Meredith (Adam) Moore; grandchildren, Anthony and Joseph Frankl, Kasey and Logan Ploetz and Dean and Miles Makepeace; brothers, Peter (Sheila) Ploetz, Steven (Marilyn) Ploetz and Robert (Ann) Ploetz; sister, Nancy (John) Anderson; and his special aunt, Sister Loraine Peter.
Mike's primary pastime was long distance running at distances from 5 kilometer to marathon, which he enjoyed until late in life. He lived in awe of the brightness of his children, the brilliance of his grandchildren and the charm and goodness of his wife.
Mike’s family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care he received at The Bickford of Middletown and from Hospice Care of Middletown, along with their comfort and support in preparing him for his next big race.
A celebration of Mike's life is planned for Saturday, January 27th, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Sharon Centre Auditorium, 11450 Lebanon Rd., Sharonville, OH 45241.
