Mary Clare Chase, 63, of Middletown, passed from this life to eternal life on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Middletown on May 7, 1960 to parents, Hobart L. and Regina C. Chase, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her older infant sister, Mary Margaret Chase, stepsisters, Sharon Reider and Patrice Reider, and brother-in-law, Joseph Stugmyer. Mary is survived by her beloved “second mom”, Janet Chase; brothers, Joseph Chase, Paul (Sally) Chase and Richard Chase; sisters, Rose Ann (Mark) Eckart, Catherine (Kevin) Bente, Regina Stugmyer, Monica (Dillis) Bolton and Anita (Joseph) Foley; twenty-two nieces and nephews, and eighteen great nieces and great nephews, in whom she took an avid and affectionate interest; many dear friends.
Mary was devout in her faith and was a lifelong member of Holy Family Parish where she sang with the Holy Trinity Choir. She attended John XXIII, Bishop Fenwick High School, Eastern Kentucky University, and Florida Atlantic where she received a BA in Business. Mary had worked as an administrative assistant for Cheney Pulp and Paper in Franklin, Ohio as a much respected and loved colleague.
Mary loved her family and was dearly loved in return. She was a very giving and generous person. Family was the core of who she was and she hosted many family holiday and seasonal gatherings. She loved life and knew how to have fun, bringing joy to those around her. Mary forged special bonds with her nieces and nephews, showing a motherly love to each of them. She is fondly remembered for hosting them on trips to see Reds and Bengals games, overnight weekend stays at her apartment in Cincinnati, Christmas cookie baking, and other fun events that children enjoy. Those who knew Mary know full well she was an avid sports fan, following the Cincinnati Reds, the Bengals, Notre Dame college football and Xavier University basketball.
Her love and caring for others extended to her last days when she seemed more concerned about her family, friends, doctors and nurses than she did herself. She fought a courageous and tenacious battle against the breast cancer that took her life but could not kill her spirit. She thanked her doctors, nurses and Hospice team for the excellent care they provided her along this journey. She personally expressed her gratitude to them and we, her family, echo her sentiments.
