John W. Montgomery, 82, of Middletown, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Menifee County, KY on June 7, 1925 to Willie and Bernice (Becraft) Montgomery.
John worked as a Slitter Operator for Armco for 43 years, retiring in 1988. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Navy, was a 62 year member of the America Legion Post #218, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He loved his family, his cats, flowers, his yard and nature.
Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife Mary E. (Greathouse) Montgomery, a son, David S. Montgomery, a step-son, Jeffrey Hawley (Sheila), a step-daughter, Elizabeth Anne Hawley, two brothers, Arnold Montgomery (Frances) and Carl Montgomery (Verna), three sisters, Anna Firsich, Ollie Skidmore (English) and Rebecca Powers, two grandchildren, Taylor and Grant Montgomery and two step-grandchildren, Travis and Savannah Hawley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charlie C. and Paul E. Montgomery and a sister, Gladys Mullin.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 2910 Central Avenue with Rev. L. Tim Doty officiating. Visitation will be prior to the services from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the church.
