John Albert “Al” Brannon, 76, passed away October 6, 2024, in Lakeland, Florida. Al was born in Middletown, Ohio, on September 18, 1948, and was the son of Bernard and Geraldine (Sora) Brannon.
He graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in Middletown, Ohio, in 1966. In August 1976, Al married young schoolteacher Glenda Salley, also of Middletown, Ohio. Al worked in meat sales for most of his career, for Eckrich and then later Fischer’s Meat Company. Just before retiring, he worked as the food service manager at the Middletown Senior Center. Al was very active in the Knights of Columbus, serving as a member of the Third Degree, as well as Grand Knight for a record 5 terms. He attended church at Saint John's his entire life, where he was a member of the choir and bell choir. He was also a bingo caller for Saint John’s for many years. Al was an avid Reds and Bengals fan. In 2016, Al and Glenda moved to their second home in Lakeland, Florida, Al loved living in Florida, but missed his family and friends. He enjoyed riding around the community on his golf cart and visiting friends. He also loved to play cards with his family and friends, whether in Florida or Ohio. Because of his bingo resume in Ohio, Al was recruited to call bingo in Florida many times.
Al is survived by his wife of 48 years, Glenda, as well as his daughter Amy of Middletown, Ohio, and son John (Rachel) of Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as numerous granddogs. Al is also survived by his sister Patricia Trotta of Greenville, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother Thomas, and his sister Jo Marie Van Cleve.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Holy Family Parish - St. John Church, 1405 First Ave., Middletown, Ohio. The family will receive friends prior to the Mass from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon at the church.
Remembrances can be made through contributions to Good Shepherd Hospice, Lakeland Hospice House.
