James “Arley” Ratliff Junior age 84, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on March 10, 1941, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late James Arley Ratliff Senior and Gail (Toler) Lawson.
A lifelong resident of Middletown, Arley worked at Cincinnati Gas and Electric (CG&E) and as a helper with Smith Auctioneers. He is known for his strong work ethics, fairness, and generosity.
Arley, was an avid antique collector with a special passion for Griswold cast iron cookware. His fascination with history and restoration allowed him to bring new life to aged rusted skillets-much like the way he built lasting, loyal relationships with everyone around him. Just like a seasoned skillet, his character was forged by strength, care, and enduring usefulness. He had a sharp wit, unwavering values, and a laugh, which was rare, and brought a smile to those around him. He taught his children the meaning of hard work, integrity, and he gifted his friends with honesty that earned lasting respect. His legacy is one of tough love, craftsmanship, and a life well-lived. Arley’s selflessness carried on through pets by continually contributing to their care by donating to various Animal shelters, Humane Society, and Animal Friends.
Arley is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah (Auxier) Ratliff; three daughters, Gail Meadows (Tim Goss), Tonya Martin (Doug), and Deanna Bargdill (Joe); younger brother, Dave Ratliff (Terry); brothers-in-law, Gary Auxier, Tim Auxier (Bonnie), and Steve Auxier; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by mother, Gail (Toler) Lawson; stepfather, Estil Lawson; brother, Raymond Ratliff; and father, James Ratliff Senior.
