Helen Marie (Lewis) Sannes, of Miamisburg, OH, and formerly of Dorchester County, Maryland, passed away peacefully after a life rich in love and joy on June 25, 2025. Born on December 22, 1942, in Starr, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John and Pauline Mowbray.
Helen dedicated most of her life to creating a warm home as a homemaker as she raised her children. She also brightened many days working at local Cambridge establishments including Rob Roy, Jim's Drive-In, Elmer's, Woods Road Shell Station, Shoals and Spicer's. On December 22, 1961, Helen married Thomas "Tommy" Lewis, sharing a loving bond until his passing in 2003. She later remarried Bill Sannes and made Ohio her home in 2016.
Helen's vibrant spirit was evident in her many passions: She loved the excitement of Bingo, the cozy comfort of crocheting and needlepont, the delicious results of her cooking and baking, taking part in a local farmer's market in Ohio where she showcased her baked goods, and the precious moments spent at family gatherings. Her contagious laugh and remarkable ability to bring a quick smile to those she encountered made her presence a gift to all her friends. Above all, Helen's heart belonged to her children and grandchildren, whom she adored and believed were absolutely perfect. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother, and she will be dearly missed.
Helen leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is survived by her husband, Bill Sannes; her loving daughters, Penny (Gary) Walden and Cheryl (David) Murphy. Her spirit will live on through her cherished grandchildren: Thomas (Emily) Arnold, Kelsey Arnold (Austin Willey), Lauren Armstrong (Kevin), Andrew Arnold, and, and her adored great-grandsons, Elias Arnold and August Arnold. She is also survived by her dear brothers, Bill Mowbray, Wilson Mowbray, and Tommy Mowbray.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pauline Mowbray; her first love and husband, Tommy Lewis; her daughter, Joan Marie Lewis; her grandson, Dylan Eugene Arnold; her four brothers, Paul, Leroy, James, and George; and her five sisters, Ruth, Ann, Evelyn, Betty, and Dortha.
