It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our family’s patriarch, Harold “Gossett” Hawkins. Gossett passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 21, 2025, at the age of 90.
Gossett was born in Fleming County, Kentucky, and spent his younger years enjoying the beauty and simplicity of the rolling hills of the Bluegrass State. He met and married his beautiful wife, Phyllis, and together they moved to Ohio to begin their lives together. They shared 71 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised two sons, Richard Hawkins (Sharon) and Wayne Hawkins (Lisa). The brothers have worked side by side at Mane Event Hair Designers in Middletown for nearly 50 years. Gossett spent countless hours keeping the hair salon sparkling clean. You may have heard him whistling a tune while dusting shelves and tidying the shop. He loved interacting with clients and never missed an opportunity to make someone smile. Gossett was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, A.J. Hawkins Huff and Lauren Hawkins Crook. The girls were his pride and joy, and he loved helping them keep their vehicles spotless. He was also blessed to welcome their husbands, Tony Huff and Lindsay Crook, into the family. Both men adored Papaw and loved him as their own grandfather. He treasured time spent with his great-grandchildren, Avery Huff, Trace Huff, Phoenix Crook, and Parker Crook. Gossett also enjoyed many hours with Kole Larison (Avery’s fiancé), researching facts online about his favorite recording artists.
At the age of 71, Gossett was diagnosed with Stage 4 lymphoma. With the expert medical guidance of his oncologist, Dr. V., he beat cancer and went on to enjoy 19 additional years with his family. Gossett was our “Energizer Bunny.” He was always cleaning and polishing everything in sight and was often seen wearing his signature crisp white baseball cap. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting “Goss,” as he was known by his friends, you will remember his sparkling blue eyes and his ornery grin. He lived a long, wonderful life and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ohio’s Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties for their compassionate care and support.
