Gordon F. Nelson

Gordon Franklin Nelson was born July 6, 1919 in Freemont, Iowa, the sixth son of Virda Arthur and Anna Mae Nelson. He went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 in Middletown, Ohio at the age of 94 years.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy of Middletown; sisters, Beverly Baldwin of Paris, TN & Edythe (Gerald) Stewart of Springfield, MO; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Nelson of Grand Rapids, MI, Vivian Nelson of Normal, IL, Pauline Turner of Simpson, KY & Bethel Turner of Middletown, OH; brother-in-law, John Meckissis of Louisville, KY; as well as many, many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Marvin, Cecil, Rex, Carl, twin brothers Merle & Verle; and sister, Wanda.

Gordon married Lucy Turner in 1946 and celebrated 67 years of marriage. He served as a tank gunner in World War II in the 11th Armored Division of the Army for four years. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. Before retiring he worked as a skilled wood designer for 27 years in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Gordon served many years in different Assemblies of God churches as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and in other capacities where needed.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 19, 2013 at 11:00 am at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Reverend Todd Nelson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park with military honors conducted by Middletown Combined Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice Care of Middletown, 3909 Central Ave., Middletown, Ohio 45044.
