Gerald Kenneth “Jerry” Squire, 88, of Middletown, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 28, 1935 to parents, Edwin and Mabel Mae (Morehead) Squire.
Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17. He served on the U.S.S. Hornet aircraft carrier as an Avionics Technician. While in the Navy he traveled the world, visiting places such as Hong Kong, Portugal, Rome, Japan and the Philippines. Following his honorable discharge, he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Toledo. He later earned his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He was employed as a defense contractor and also worked in research and development. He was most recently employed by Cincinnati Electronics.
He was a devoted father and doting grandfather. His greatest pride was his family and he was always supportive of their endeavors and especially of their education. He was active for many years in a barbershop vocal group and enjoyed entertaining the community. His community service also included his work as a volunteer bailiff for the Middletown court system and as an AARP Tax Aide. He was a regular contributor to several charities, including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Jerry is survived by his three children, Gregory A. (Karen) Squire, Daniel J. Squire & Kathleen “Kathy” Squire; brother, Mark Squire; grandchildren, Alex Squire, Kristen (Colin) Connell, Nathan (Gladys) Squire & Aimee Squire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Powell; brothers, Robert “Bob” Squire and Raymond “Ray” Squire; his former spouse, Mary Alice Squire and his beautiful granddaughter, Cassidy Nicole Squire.
Memorial Service will be Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr), Middletown with Reverend Jason Faulkner officiating. Inurnment will be at Woodhill Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
