Eduardo Amaya

March 24, 1938 — May 11, 2025

Monroe, Ohio

Eduardo Amaya, 87, of Monroe, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 11, 2025, surrounded by the deep love of his family. Born on March 24, 1938, in Bogotá, Colombia, he was the cherished son of Luis Eduardo and Alicia (Posada) Amaya, who welcomed him into eternity. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Carmen (Sanchez) Amaya, with whom he built a beautiful life. Eduardo's memory will live on through his children, Luis (Abbie) Amaya, Mario (Cindy) Amaya, and Adriana (Rich) Inman; as well as through his adored grandchildren, Elyse (Tyler) Martin, Nicholas (Katie) Amaya, Alyssa Amaya, Jacquelyn Amaya, Sophia Amaya, Gabe Amaya, Daniel Inman; and his two great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Mendez; niece, Natalia Mendez; as well as many other cherished family members and friends who were blessed by his kindness and lively spirit.

In 1965 Eduardo left his family in Bogotá to start a new life in New Jersey. Soon after, he brought his wife and daughter to the states. Over the next few years, the family grew and with hard work and dedication Eduardo pursued an available opportunity in Franklin, Ohio.

A man of great intellect, integrity, and quiet strength, Eduardo dedicated six decades of his life as a chemist. He invented low molecular weight heparin and holds multiple patents. He retired as lead chemist at Pfizer in 2005. His commitment to the results of his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family, friends and deep faith. Eduardo lived his life guided by humility, honesty and generosity.

Eduardo had a passion for playing, watching and teaching soccer. Along with other international friends, he formed the first organized soccer leagues in the Middletown area, expanding into Monroe, Lebanon, Trenton and Franklin. Once soccer was introduced to the schools, he coached for Monroe, Middletown and Edgewood High Schools.

Eduardo’s greatest joy was his family. His heart swelled with pride for his children and grandchildren, and he cherished every moment spent with them—sharing stories, wisdom, laughter, and love. He was a steady presence in their lives, offering encouragement, guidance, and unwavering support.
