Diane Margaret Hocz

November 11, 1948 — August 13, 2025

Franklin Township, Ohio

Diane Margaret (Fasany) Hocz, 76, of Franklin Township, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at home. She was born in Bronx, New York on November 11, 1948 and the family moved to Middletown when she was 2 years old.

Diane was a 1966 graduate of Middletown High School and then went to Miami University, where she earned her B.S. in English and Social Studies. She went on to earn her Master's degree in Educational Leadership and did post-graduate work in Education Leadership. She joined Phi Beta Psi National Service Sorority in 1989. Diane had a gift for education and taught with Madison Local Schools until taking time to raise her family. She later was a private and home instruction tutor with both Middletown & Madison schools. In addition to that, she was the former Academic Instructor on the Adolescent Psychiatric Unit at Middletown Regional Hospital.

Diane was a member of the Middletown Chapter of the Miami University Alumni Association, National Council of Teachers of English, Association for Supervision Curriculum Development and the American Association of University Women, where she formerly served as Public Information Chairman, Bulletin Editor and Publicity Chairman of the annual AAUW Book Fair. She was also a member of the Middletown Tennis Club, the United States Tennis Association, Forest Hills Country Club, Wildwood Golf Club and the Church of the Ascension.

A lover of both history and research with an unmistakable flair for writing, Diane - after leaving the education field - devoted many years of study to trace her and her husband's ancestral lines. Diane was very proud of the genealogy album that she compiled to share with her children and grandchildren; a treasure trove of old photographs, documents, and humorous and interesting family anecdotes.

An avid tennis player since a young girl, she later enjoyed hiking in the woods and biking along the Little Miami Scenic Trail. One of her greatest passions in life, however, was to use her imagination to create things of beauty - whether it be a line of magical prose, an artfully designed garden, or a special meal for family or friends.

Above all though, Diane felt that being a mother and grandma was her most important accomplishment. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Gary M. Hocz; sons, Michael Todd (Kristen) Hocz & James Tyler Hocz; grandchildren, Jade Gillespie, Eliza Hocz, Maggie Hocz, Garrison Hocz & Aubrielle Hocz; 3 great grandchildren; cousins, Carlie Nichols & her son, Jamie, Billy Anderson, Barbara Bonvillain & her daughter, Lea; as well as all of her special friends who have always been by her side.

She was preceded in death by her father, James A. Fasany; and mother, Kathryn M. (Anderson) Walker.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 2709 McGee Ave, Middletown. Entombment will follow at Woodside Mausoleum.
