Charles E. Rau

May 25, 1938 — December 3, 2023

Middletown

Charles “C” Rau, 85, died peacefully in his home surrounded by loving family on December 3, 2023. Charles was born on May 25, 1938 in Middletown, OH to Fred L and Carrie Newlin Rau. He graduated from Middletown High school, class of 1956. Charles, known to friends as “C, Chuck, Charlie, Chester, and Chuckles” built his life and grew his family in Middletown. He married his beloved wife Dolores “Deedee” Rau in April 1959. Charles had a 65-year career as an electrician and member of IBEW Local 648.

Charles was a dedicated family man who loved nothing more than being surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With his wife, they visited all their family in the fifth wheel and enjoyed driving all over the great American roads. Charles’ favorite time was spending his summers in Ludington, MI, where he camped and loved soaking up the sun and watching the precision of The Badger come in each night. Charles also never missed watching his favorite football teams, the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Charles is survived by Dolores, his wife of 64 years; his three daughters, Linda (David) Marshall, Lisa (Brett) Morgan, Laurie (Steve) Reiter and son John; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Barbara Reinartz of Huntsville, AL and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Fred N. Rau.

Charles will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later time.

The family would like to thank Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton for their compassionate care. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton,  OH  45420.
