Arnold Urban "Arnie" Hurst, 96, formerly of Middletown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 in Leesburg, Virginia. He was born in Jasper, Indiana on June 18, 1929 to Gilbert and Anna Hurst. Arnie lived a long, full, and joyful life defined by family, friendship, and faith.
A 1948 graduate of Jasper High School, Arnie began his life of service and dedication by joining the U.S. Army in June of 1951. He proudly served as a radio operator during the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal before receiving his honorable discharge in 1953 and later from the Army Reserves in 1957.
In 1953, Arnie married the love of his life, Rose Ann Krampe, with whom he shared a lifetime of laughter and devotion. Together, they raised their son, Curt Alan Hurst. After completing his education at Lain Drafting College in 1955, Arnie began a career that would take him from Reynolds Aluminum in Louisville, Kentucky--where he obtained his first patent--to Magnode Corporation in Trenton, Ohio, where he served as a manufacturing engineer and manager.
A lifelong Catholic, Arnie remained active in parish life wherever he lived, from Richmond, Virginia to Middletown, Ohio. He lived in Middletown from 1967 - 2020 and was very active with Holy Family Parish, where he was frequently seen assisting with serving Mass. He was a 3rd Degree life-member of the Knights of Columbus. Arnie enjoyed helping out at Fenwick High School and was part of the Tuesday Group, who handled repairs at the school. He was also a life-member of both the American Legion Post #218 and V.F.W. Post #3809.
In retirement, he found great joy in traveling--visiting Alaska, Hawaii, Tahiti, Europe, and countless U.S. cities--always happiest when surrounded by family, grandchildren, and a good dessert. His smile was brightest by the family pool in Virginia or during his famous bourbon toasts among friends.
In addition to his parents, Arnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Ann; and his siblings, Sylvester "Si", Mary Ann, and Virginia. He is survived by his son, Curt; his grandchildren, Lauren and Cameron; and his great grandchildren.
