Albert L. Berns, of Middletown, died Friday August 29, 2025 at his residence. Al was born September 8, 1927, at home in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Herman J. Berns and Lena (Seiler) Berns.
He was drafted into the Army in the last draft of World War II and served from January 1946 to July 1947 in the 117th Postal Unit at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He returned home to work at Bohne’s Greenhouse in Middletown, OH. He met Cherie A Bohne in 1945 and they were married in 1948. In 1956 the young married couple purchased a dilapidated greenhouse and started Berns Greenhouse. It grew to become Berns Greenhouse and Garden Center. Al was also a Firefighter for the City of Middletown from 1957 to 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Cherie Berns; and children, Michael Berns, Vickie Berns, Leslie (Steven Kiger) Berns, Greg Berns and Jeffery (Jane) Berns; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Private services were held at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home with Father John Civille officiating. Interment was held at Woodside Cemetery.
