William D. Burton

William D. Burton, 74, of Joshua Tree, California, died on April 2, 2008, at Hi-Desert Medical Center, from complications following emergency surgery. He was born in Middletown, Ohio on July 12, 1933 to parents William Theodore and Pauline Roberta (Graham) Burton.

Bill was a graduate of Middletown High School, Class of '52. He served in the United States Army for two years as a radio technician attached to the 82nd Airborne Division. A long time resident of Middletown, he was employed by Armco Steel Corporation for 37 years, where he worked as an electrical engineer, specializing in thermal measurement. He had been a part time resident of Palm Springs and had recently moved to Joshua Tree, California. A man of varied interests, he enjoyed wood working, long trips on his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle and primarily Amateur Radio in which he had been active since 1961. He was a member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association Chapter 154 of the Greater Palm Springs Area, whose members have been involved in HAM radio for at least 25 years.

Mr. Burton is survived by his wife of 11 years, Suzanne (Mock) Burton; a son, David J. Burton; daughter, Debra Hayden; brother, Brian L. (Jacqueline) Burton; grandson, Matthew Hayden; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 2:00 PM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown, with Pastor Dean Penrod officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the charity of donor's choice.
