Vincent Dinardo

December 14, 1920 — January 12, 2009

Vincent DiNardo, 88, of Middletown, died Monday, January 12, 2009, at Liberty of Middletown.

Vincent's parents emigrated to the U.S. and he was born in Middletown, Ohio on December 14, 1920. Two years later, in 1922, his family returned to Italy. When World War II began, international relations between the U.S. and Italy were severed. He was forced to serve in the Italian Army as a paratrooper, but was not in the war zone as he was an American citizen. After Italy surrendered to the U.S., his division was chosen to fight the Germans out of Italy, from Monte Cassimo to north of Italy, until the Germans surrendered. Vincent was very proud to serve with the fifth and eighth allied army to liberate Italy. He was the first soldier entering his hometown Manoppello, Pescara, east of Rome, capturing two German soldiers. He stated that it was an honor to serve this great nation and may God Bless America. He later returned to the U.S. to better provide for his family, and worked in transportation for Armco Steel Corp. for 35 years, retiring in 1989.

Mr. DiNardo is survived by his wife, Anna (Pecchia) DiNardo; son, Mark DiNardo; daughters, Anita Klamo and Rosanna (Steve) Chamberlain; sister, Elena DiNardo; four grandchildren, Tara (Jim) Spencer, Marianna DiNardo, Gillian DiNardo and Vincent Carson DiNardo; and two great grandchildren, Gianna Spencer and Jimmy Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bartolomeo and Fiorinda (DiCristoforo) DiNardo; and brothers, Andrew DiNardo, Guerino DiNardo, Santo DiNardo and Peppino DiNardo.
