Thomas L. Strait

Thomas L. Strait, 75, of Middletown, died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at his residence. He was born in Middletown, on May 31, 1931 to parents Chelcie Leo and Harriet Doris (Boxwell) Strait.

Tom was a 1949 graduate of Middletown High School, where he was the senior class president. He went on to graduate from Yale University in 1953 with a BA degree, majoring in International Relations and Miami University in 1963 with a MBA degree , majoring in Industrial Management. He worked for Armco Steel Corporation for 33 years, retiring from Human Resources in 1986. Following his retirement, he taught business at Miami University Oxford and Miami University Middletown.

Tom served his country as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, where he was a pilot during the Korean Conflict and Squadron Air Intelligence Officer. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he was secretary, then director; Yale University Scholarship and bursary employment; member of the National Training Laboratories; International Organization Development Registry; American Society for Training and Development; the American Society of Personnel Administrators; and member of First Presbyterian Church. He also served as chairman of the Water Safety Committee for the American Red Cross.

Mr. Strait is survived by his wife, Nancy (Roper) Strait; one daughter, Susanne (Stephen) Lane of Middletown; three sons, Mike (Toni) Strait of New Lenox, IL, Ken (Jan) Strait of Scarborough, Maine and Rick (Lee Ann) Strait of Mason; and thirteen grandchildren, Allison, Lyndsay, Andrew, Ashley, Jessica, Emily, Nicole, Mark, Abby, Scott, Steven, William, & Matt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 23, 2006 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 2910 Central Ave., Middletown, with Reverend Tom Ramsey officiating. The family will receive friends at the church, following the service.
