Russell L. Downs

Russell L. Downs, 77, of Madison Township, died Tuesday evening, July 5, 2011, at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Middletown on February 5, 1934 to parents Walter and Anna Downs. He was preceded in death by his wife, June; brother, Roy Downs; sister-in-law, Pat Downs; his father; and his mother.

After graduating from Trenton High School he served in the United States Air Force as a drill instructor. He was a fire fighter in Grand Rapids, Michigan for several years then moved to Florida and was in construction for many years. He retired in Kent, New York, where his wife's family lived, coming back to Middletown 7 years ago when she passed away.

Mr. Downs is survived by his sister Marjorie Benjamin and her husband Ben, of Houghton Lake, Michigan and brother, Ronald Downs and his wife Judy, of Monroe. He is also survived by two nieces, Beth Toomey and her husband Vince of Utica, Michigan and Karen Frazier and her husband Paul and their two children Ann & Sam of Monroe.

Graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 10:00 am at Butler County Memorial with Rick Moore officiating.
