Roland L. Markee

November 18, 1948 — August 31, 2012

Roland Lee Markee was taken home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2012. He was an inpatient at LifeCare Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and died after waging a long battle with heart disease. He left this world peacefully and with dignity, just as he would have wished. Roland was the son of Lovell Austin and Evelyn Birdeen (Butler) Markee, and was born on November 18, 1948 in Thorp, Clark County, Wisconsin. When he was a toddler, his parents moved the family to the state of Washington where Roland graduated from Redmond High School. As he was growing up, he loved to spend time outdoors and one of his favorite past times was setting traps in the woods and around the streams that ran through the area. He also loved Elvis Presley and would spend hours listening to Elvis Music - as an adult he collected as many albums as he could find as well as many of the "King's" movies, and he spent many hours enjoying them. He was a huge Green Bay Packer fan and his passion during football season was rooting for the home team.
Roland married Brenda Osborn on June 29, 1988 and together they authored a genealogy of the Markee family. Much of their early married life was spent in researching the family history, which included many local trips as well as visits to neighboring states which included Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. They both loved genealogy and spent many hours working together on compiling books which they donated to various libraries within and around Vernon County, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife Brenda S. Markee, one daughter; Jennifer ( Cliff ) McComb, one son; Christopher ( Rachel ) Markee, one brother; Lawrence ( Holly ) Markee, one sister Lela ( Bill ) Roberts, mother& father in-law; William & Nettie Boos, two sisters-in-law; Pandora Boos & Rebecca ( Hossein ) Mirdamad, one brother-in-law David ( Rhonda ) Boos, five nephews; Steve, Jeff, Daniel, Brian, and Wesley, four nieces Anna, Heather, Freyja, and Morgan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lovell and Evelyn; two sisters, Elaine May Kirkpatrick and Anita Lorraine; three brothers, Verlon Duane, Roger Leslie, and Virgil Milton; and two brothers-in-law; Mike Boos and Max Kirkpatrick.
Roland loved the simple life-he loved family, his animals, and he loved the outdoors. He didn't need to go anywhere: he was perfectly happy to spend Saturday night at home watching movies or sitting on the deck. We will miss him greatly, but his suffering is done. Let's take comfort in that fact, and remember his crazy jokes and smile when we think of him.
