Olga Kowanick

Olga Kowanick, 82, of Monroe, died Sunday, September 18, 2005, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. She was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on October 22, 1922 to parents John and Olena (Glogish) Tomosky.

Olga married Michael Kowanick on April 24, 1944 and moved to Watertown, New York in 1956. She lived there until 1972, when she moved to Monroe. While living in Watertown, she was a member of the Women´s Bowling League and the Co-Ed Bowling League, and was a member of the Home Bureau. For several years after moving to Monroe, she would return to Watertown and stay with her daughter for the summer. Locally, Olga was a member of the square dancing club in Miamisburg and knitted baby bonnets and grieving blankets for Middletown Regional Hospital. In addition to knitting, she enjoyed cooking and jigsaw puzzles.

Mrs. Kowanick is survived by her son, John (Marla) Kowanick of Monroe; her daughter, Carol (Joe) Rich of Watertown, NY; one brother, Walter Tomosky of Milten, Ontario, Canada; daughter-in-law, Linda Kowanick of Brewer, ME; son-in-law, Tim Flynn of West Chester; six grandchildren, Michael Kowanick, Melissa Flynn, Scott Kowanick, Steven (Amy) Rich, Nicole (Tom) Blodgett, and Krystle Kowanick; four great grandsons, Jason & Daniel Blodgett, Joseph Rich, and Greg Covell; and two sisters-in-law and many cousins in Canada.

She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Kowanick; her parents; a son, Paul Kowanick; and daughter, Patricia Flynn.

Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 7:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), with Father Terry Meehan officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, prior to the service from 6-7 pm at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Watertown, New York, at a later date.
