Myrtle Ann Smith

Myrtle Ann (Carpenter) Smith, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 11, 2019. Ann had been living in the Lebanon, Ohio area since 2013. She was born in Norwich, New York on September 25, 1926 the daughter of Telford and Rose (Herrick) Carpenter.

Ann was a graduate of Norwich High School in the class of 1944. She also earned a LPN degree from Lincoln School of Nursing in 1964. On September 11, 1948 Ann married Charles L. Smith who predeceased her on November 10, 1995. Before becoming a stay-at-home mother, Ann worked for several Norwich businesses, including Unisan (formerly GLA) Public Loan and The Bargain Shop. Ann was very involved in her community. She held memberships in the Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Pocohontas Lodge Waupaunaucau Council 220, Midstate Numismatic Club, Home Bureau of Norwich, and Chenango County Historical Museum. Ann has been a member of Calvary Baptist Church all of her life. She was a member of the church choir and taught first grade Sunday School for 26 years. She was a volunteer at Valley Heights Christian Academy where she taught Chapel and served in the lunchroom and also helped in the library. Ann was also a piano teacher for many years and many generations.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Roseann Randall; grandson, Christopher (Shelley) Randall; and great grandson, Charles Randall all from Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by her sisters, June Carpenter Chin of New Jersey and Lillian Carpenter Leonard of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Winola Carpenter Rowe.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Calvary Drive, Norwich with Pastor Joel Weck and Pastor Jeremy Stopford officiating. Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
