Larry E. Penny

Larry E. Penny, 72, lifelong resident of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 after an extended illness. He was born in Middletown on February 2, 1946 to parents Edward and Ruth (Davis) Penny.

Larry retired from Electric Power at Armco/AK Steel in 2000, after 34 years with the company. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and member of the American Legion Post 218, VFW #3809 and DAV #131. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #501 and Fraternal Order of Orioles. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and all sorts of sports. He will be remembered as a man who loved his family, his friends and his country. He had a great sense of humor and was famous for his tall tales & his booming laugh.

Mr. Penny was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by his wife, Zareda Penny; son, Darrell (Shawna) Penny; brothers, Paul (Nancy) Penny & Bob (Helen) Penny; sister, Sharon Edwards; grandchildren, Nicholas, Quinten, Dallas & Brandon; many nieces & nephews; and childhood friend, Jack Lee who was as much a brother to him as any man could be.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Barbara Penny; grandson, Anthony; and brother-in-law, Larry Edwards.

Prayer Service will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Deacon John Lyons officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Military honors will be conducted by the Franklin VFW Post #7596 Honor Guard.
