John 'Con' Dillon

John C. “Con” Dillon Sr., 87, of Monroe, died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown, on July 9, 1918 to David F. and Julia A. (McDonough) Dillon. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1937. He served in the United States Marine Corps for four years in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded on Guam. He was owner of Fenzel-McDonough, a local jewelry store, for 36 years.

Mr. Dillon was involved with many community businesses and organizations. He was a member of the Butler County Park Board for six years, serving as president for two years. He also served on the boards of Citizens Savings & Loan, Mid-Fed Savings Bank, the American Red Cross, and was an active Legionnaire from 1945 – 1949. He served three years on the board of the Chrisholm Foundation, which restored the Butler County homestead of Christian Augspurger, the first Mennonite settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. He served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army and was a past president of the Retail Merchants Association. Mr. Dillon was also president of Miami Valley Industrial Parks, Inc. and served as president of Satellite Farms, Inc. until his death. He was a lifetime member of the Middletown Sportsman’s Club and a lifelong member of Holy Family Parish – Holy Trinity Church.

Mr. Dillon was preceded in death by his parents, David F. and Julia A. (McDonough) Dillon; six sisters, Mary Dillon, Frances Dillon, Margaret “Peg” (William) Miller, Eileen (Edward) Kercsmar, Irene (James) Cahill, and Agnes (John) Giorgis; three brothers, James P. (Barbara) Dillon, Joseph M. (Yvonne) Dillon, and David F. Dillon.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucy (Long) Dillon; two children, John C. “Jay” Dillon, Jr. of Longmont, Colorado and Suzanne (Steven) Tunning of Middletown; two grandchildren, Daniel R. Frease of Middletown and Katherine Tunning of New York, New York, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Family Parish – Holy Trinity Church, 201 Clark Street, at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 with as Father John Civille as celebrant.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the church.

It was Mr. Dillon’s wish that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to John XXIII Catholic Elementary School, 3800 Manchester Rd., Middletown, OH 45042 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
