Eleanor Sally Flisher

September 28, 1930 — March 23, 2023

A beautiful soul has departed this earth. Longtime Middletown, Ohio resident Eleanor Sally (Dominy) Flisher passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on Thursday, 03-23-2023. She resided at the Heritage Senior Living in Marysville, Ohio, when she died at the age of 92. She had been lovingly looked over by her youngest daughter, Kymberly Ann, for the past several years.

Eleanor was born on September 28, 1930, on the Canadian border in Plattsburg, NY to William and Anita Dominy. As a young girl, her two delights were attending the Catholic school which was run by the convent nuns and sitting by her grandparent's side in the small grocery store they operated in the neighborhood. She dearly loved her older and younger brothers.

It was in Plattsburg that she met and married her husband of 49 years, Harry Anthony Flisher. He was attending college at The State University of New York, following his service in the US Navy. Their first child, James, born in Plattsburg, passed away at birth. Soon after they returned to Harry's birthplace and family in Middletown.

For a short time upon her arrival in Middletown, Eleanor worked as a secretary. However, once Harry and Eleanor continued their quest of raising a family, she found her true and lifelong calling as a stay at home Mom and homemaker. She made many lifelong friends and was close with her husband's parents and siblings. Harry's brother Paul Flisher taught her to drive a stick shift in the Middletown cemetery.

She and Harry were devout Catholics, attending Holy Family Parish. She attended weekly services until she could no longer drive and was frequently spotted at the noonday services as well. She prided herself in saying the rosary daily, right up until the end. She had to retype her personal prayer cards several times, she just wore them out!

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and baking. Her biggest claim to fame was her weekly "GAZETTE", a letter she typed on a manual typewriter and distributed to family members near and far. After completing said letter, she would drive to FEDEX, have it photocopied,

then place it in hand addressed envelopes. She would then drive to the post office, walking inside, to make sure her letters were personally handed over to the US Postal Service. (she was reprimanded more than once for carrying out this task even on bad weather days). Later in life she discovered a love for reading books, enjoying many genres of reading materials.

Eleanor was a devoted wife for forty-nine years. She willingly followed her husband's careers from New York to Middletown, then onto New Jersey for twenty+ years, and finally back to retirement in Middletown. She honored her vows and provided meticulous care of her husband until his passing. She was a widow for twenty-four years.

Eleanor was born to be a Grandmother! There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her grandchildren, all eight of them. As they resided in many states across the country...New Jersey, Maryland and Colorado, needless to say Grandpa bought her a lot of

plane tickets. She was able to attend ALL of their college graduations, and many weddings as well. Then as the great grandchildren began to appear on the scene, she felt so blessed.

Living until the age of 92, sadly this meant that many members of her family preceded her in death: her loving husband Harry Flisher, parents William and Anita Dominy, Harry’s parents James and Rosa Flisher, brothers William and Floyd, and all of Harry's siblings, sons James and William Flisher, granddaughter Sarah O'Leary Carillo, nieces Lynn Dominy and Paula Hopple. As well, she has left behind many who were fortunate to call her family, be a part of her journey and will miss her greatly, at the same time remembering all she did to influence them one way or another: her daughters Kristian O'Leary and Kymberly Ann Zuba , grandchildren Jacqui (Vicco) VonVoss, Nicole (Edward) Erickson, Megan O'Leary, Matthew (Chelsea) Flisher, Daryl Radovich, Andrew (Elly) Flisher and Olivia (Adam) Deel, great grandchildren Ella VonVoss, William O'Leary Strait, Julia and Alexander Erickson, Nora and Penny Flisher, Emma Ann Deel and Lilly Flisher. Others who were fond of her: Edward and Olivia Flisher, Dave Radovich, Lorraine Flisher, Audrey Dominy and William Strait.

A small private memorial gathering will take place on Tuesday April 4th at 11am at Woodside Cemetery.
