Elbert R. Tannreuther

January 6, 1930 — March 4, 2018

Elbert was lovingly known as Dad, Tanner, Uncle Moe, and Mr. Mayor. He loved his family, his community and his church.

He is survived by his wife Joyce A Tannreuther of 67 years, a son Steven (Rita) Tannreuther, daughters: Deborah (Mark) Tibbs, Patricia (Tom) Ball and a brother Mark (Nancy) Tannreuther. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Christopher (Alline), Kevin, Jeremy (Katie) Tibbs, Valery Setters, Amanda, Michael (Jackie) Tannreuther, Lindsey (Alex) Tzakis and Lauren (Derek) Olguin. He is survived by nine great grandchildren: Austin, Jody, Jarrett, Joshua, Riley, Emma, Emily, Kendall and Sadie. His family also includes many nieces and nephews who he loved and enjoyed. He is preceded in death by his father and mother: Elbert and Loraine (Stroud) Tannreuther; his sisters Barbara Singleton and Bonnie Hollon and a nephew Doug Hollon.

Elbert served in the US Navy prior to a 42 year career at Armco Steel. Prior to retirement he served on Monroe City Council for 28 years, including 15 years as Mayor of Monroe. Through his leadership Monroe became a city in 1995. As Mayor, he officiated approximately 100 couples in marriage. He served on the board of directors for MIDUSA Credit Union. He was Past Master of Lincoln Lodge # 693 and is presently a member of High Point Lodge # 773. He is a member of Monroe United Methodist Church where he has served as a Trustee. He had a passion for flying and earned his pilot’s license. His other passion was officiating high school football for 25 years.

Our family offers our sincere thank you for the care provided by Dr. Maurice Swanson, the staff at Monroe Medical Center and Dr. David Miller of The Urology Group. We are so very thankful for the comfort and prayers provided by Pastor Joel Harbarger and Reverend Ann Copeland as we prepared for the loss of our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

We now celebrate his journey home. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Monroe United Methodist Church Saturday, March 10th, 2018. Visitation 10:30 am and service to begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Joel Harbarger officiating.
