Dorothy Lawrence Roof

Dorothy Lawrence Roof, age 98, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties, following a short illness. She was born in Middletown, Ohio on March 21, 1913 to parents Fred and Anna Reiner.

Dorothy was a long-time resident of Middletown before moving to Bradenton, Florida in 1991, then to Duluth, Georgia in 2004, and in 2011 she became a resident at Mt. Pleasant in Monroe, Ohio. In 1959, along with her husband James "Jim" Lawrence, she opened a women's specialty clothing store named Irvings on the Plaza in the Middletown Shopping Center on Breiel Blvd. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Roof is survived by her three daughters, Suzanne "Sue" L. (Robert) Harris of Cumming, GA, Patricia L. Hathaway of Middletown and Kay L. Price of Centerville; five grandchildren, James (Kathy) Harris of Middletown, Pamela (Steve) Crawford of Marietta, GA, Lisa A. Hathaway of St. Augustine, FL, David (Nance) Hathaway of Rockton, IL and Jeffrey (Susan) Hathaway of Mason, OH; seven great grandchildren, Danielle (Justin) Simpson, Cody Crawford, Lane Crawford, Tyler Hathaway, Katie Hathaway, Parker Hathaway and Spencer Hathaway; one great great grandchild, Leah Simpson; and two step daughters, Becky (Jim) Gaebe of Chicago, IL and Janice (Dave) Revelos Adams of Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul & Robert; and her husbands, James H. "Jim" Lawrence and William B. "Bill" Roof.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 2910 Central Ave., Middletown with Reverend L. Timothy Doty officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
