Deacon William Krumm

November 30, 1938 — June 11, 2017

Deacon William “Bill” Krumm, went to be with God on Sunday June 11, 2017 at the age of 78. He was born on November 30, 1938 in Steubenville, OH to Thomas and Mary Agnes Krumm. He was the oldest of 7.

Bill has a degree in industrial design from the Dayton Art Institute, as well as a Master’s Degree in Theology from the University of Dayton. Bill dedicated his life to his family, his community and God. During college, Bill was a test subject for a developmental space program. Bill was an industrial illustrator and sole proprietor of William T Studios. He taught art at Sinclair and even taught at Athenaeum in Cincinnati. Throughout his life he also worked as a public speaker, giving talks and workshops at various church functions. For many years he gave presentations to young children on the life of St. Nicholas, while also dressing the part. In 1976, Bill was ordained as a deacon, becoming part of the first class of permanent deacons in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Bill had many roles in the church, including working at the chancery, Director of Religion education, Director in the Deacon office of Archdiocese of Cincinnati and Pastoral Associate at St. Leonard Community. He mentored engaged couples preparing for marriage, mentored men preparing themselves to become deacons, and mentored students of the Lay Pastoral Ministry program. Bill was also active with Holy Family’s Vacation Bible School and helped to develop the Jerusalem VBS. Bill also dedicated his life to volunteering. He helped Habitat for Humanity, Middfest International Festival and volunteered in a ministry for the Miami County Sherriff’s department. But the job he was most proud of was being a father to his 8 children. He often said raising 8 children with his wife was his greatest accomplishment. Bill also found time for his hobbies. He was involved in various theater productions, and even performed in a dance jazz band. He was able to play saxophone, clarinet, and flute. He often taught art classes for children and adults at “Art in the Park”. He especially loved woodworking - creating furniture, baby cradles, musical instruments and countless other things. Bill always had a love of learning and read books on every subject imaginable. He was often sought out for his wise words and general knowledge of just about everything. He had a way of including humor into everything he said and did. He often said laughter is a sign of joy, and joy is a sign of God’s love. He specialized in “puns”, a skill he has passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; granddaughter, Kaylee; parents, and brother, Richard. He is survived by his children: Michael (Shawn), Paul, James (Kelly), Anne (Bill), Margaret (Mark), Anthony (Lisa), Amy (Chris), Mark (Morgan). His grandchildren: Emily (Joe), Jon-Paul (Amy), Ryan, Ashlea, Laura, Elleigh, Taylor, Zachary, Edward, Angus, Charles, Mira, Claire, Grant, Quentin, Evelyn, Brianna, Lilyana, Gabrielle, and Susan “Stormy.” And his great-grandchildren: Alana, Autumn, Novalee, Hunter, Macie, William, Charlotte, and Mady, as well as one on the way.
