Cary I. Fenton

Cary I. Fenton, who lived 25 years with five different cancers, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Middletown on March 24, 1934 to parents Sidney and Luella (Zacharias) Fenton.

Cary retired from the Middletown United States Post Office in 1989. He had been a postal carrier advancing to V.O.M.A. Inspector. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Past Worshipful Master of Lincoln Lodge #693, Knight York of Honor Priory #18, Member of AASR Valley of Dayton, recipient of the Meritorious Award Valley of Dayton AASR, Past Sovereign of Holy Grail Red Cross Constantine, Herman Lawrence Council #82 AMD, Dayton Antioch Shrine, Knight Masons Ireland. He also served as Past Worthy Patron of Prosser Chapter OES #367, Past Royal Patron of Amaranth and Past Watchmen of Shepherds of White Shrine of Jerusalem. Cary was active with youth organizations including DeMolay and Middletown Rainbow Assembly #68, receiving the Grand Cross of Colors in Rainbow. He was inducted into the Middletown Bowling Association Hall of Fame, was a life member of the Ohio State Bowling Association and was a Kentucky Colonel. He served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #218 and Veteran's of Foreign Wars #3809. He was also a volunteer at Atrium Medical Center.
Cary & Nancy enjoyed building a home in the woods of Cave Run, Kentucky, wintering in Titusville, Florida with their permanent home in Middletown, Ohio. Cary enjoyed Caribbean cruises, fishing, feeding birds, squirrels, rabbits, & chipmunks, growing a variety of flowers & making his sister Stell's Christmas cookie logs. He enjoyed the Fenton & Calvin Reunions as well as Stevens and the Jewish Stem Cell Reunions. He believed his whole life in the power of prayer and the power of positive thinking which sustained him. He wants to thank Dr. Mary Ellen Gaeke & her staff for the tremendous job she did of keeping him going for 25 years. Cary also wants to thank the workers at Hospice Care of Middletown for the awesome care they gave. Also, he wants everyone to know & remember his motto: Happy Wife, Happy Life!!!!

Mr. Fenton is survived by his brother, Thomas (Jane) Fenton; sisters-in-law, Mary Fenton, Mary Ellen Fuller, Myra Edwards, Catherine Brown & Jean (Donald) Stamper; nieces, Joyce Johnson, Mary Lynn (Jack) Thrall & Donna (Paul) Goodwin; nephews, Chuck (Marilyn) Calvin, Frank (Pat) Calvin, Michael Calvin, Richard Calvin, Steve (Terri) Fenton & Doug (Giesel) Fenton; and many great nieces & nephews and great-great nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Fenton; parents; brothers, Robert Fenton & Donald Fenton; and sisters, Helen Fenton, Estella Calvin & Juanita Pelley.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:00 am at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Reverend John Wagner officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 – 5:00 pm at the funeral home with Masonic Services at 4:00. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice Care of Middletown, 3909 Central Ave., Middletown, OH 45044.
