Andrew Mittenholzer

Andrew Michael "Andy" Mittenholzer, 94, of Berkeley Lake, GA, passed away on September 19, 2013, after a brief hospitalization for pneumonia.

Andy was born on September 25, 1918 to Caroline (Draxler) and Andrew Mittenholzer and remained a Middletown resident until 2008 when he moved to Georgia to live with his daughter. A graduate of Middletown High School's Class of 1936, Andy enjoyed Hi-Y and the many lifetime friendships he made growing up on 14th Avenue. Andy served as a Staff Sergeant with the 147th Infantry in the Army Service Forces from 1941-1945, serving 33 months overseas in Southeast Asia and receiving numerous awards upon his discharge. After returning from his four year service, Andy resumed working at Armco Steel Corporation before retiring in 1981. Andy was inducted into the Butler County Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988, having played baseball for many local teams throughout the Middletown area well into his 50's. Andy was an avid golfer and swam regularly at the YMCA. To celebrate his 70th birthday he swam 3 miles. Andy was proud to be one of the founding coaches of Middletown's Knothole League baseball. Andy was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middletown.

Mr. Mittenholzer is survived by his daughter, Andrea (Paul) Miller and two grandsons, Andrew & Mitch Miller.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Milly in 2004; parents; brother, William Mittenholzer in 1942; and sisters, Helen Hensley in 1998 and Louise Horn in 2011.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00 am at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Pastor Michelle Terry officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Huntington's Disease Society of American, Ohio Valley Chapter, 3537 Epley Lane, Cincinnati, Ohio 45247 – OR - Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 212 S. Broad Street, Middletown, OH 45044.
