Yeprouhie Farhaden

Yeprouhie “Yippie” Farhaden, 95, of Middletown, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Garden Manor Retirement Village.

Yeprouhie was born December 24, 1910 in Hadjin, Armenia, Turkey. She became one of the wards of the American Near East Relief program who rescued the children of the Armenian Genocide by the Turks. She settled in Pirea/Athens, Greece, where she met and married her first husband, Ardaches Hagopian. They moved to Marseille, France in 1929 and she set up her dress designing/courtier shop. She became very well known in that field. She moved to the USA after the war in 1951 and again worked as a dress designer in New York. She later lived in Detroit, Michigan with her second husband, Bob Farhaden. It was here that she was able to reconnect with some of her friends from the American Orphanage. They then moved to Caruthers, CA in 1962, to a rancher´s life, until the death of her second husband. She traveled extensively through Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa. She came to reside in Middletown in 1970. She was a member of the Armenian Apostolic Church and attended Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church and was a member of the Gourmet Club of Middletown. She moved to Garden Manor in 2000, and became well known as “Yippie” by the loving residents and caregivers there.

Yeprouhie is survived by two daughters, Tania Culbertson and Penny Weatherwax, both of Middletown; seven grandchildren, Patricia (Gerry) Enright, Donald Gardner, Tom Gardner, Paul (Kathy) Weatherwax, Robin Weatherwax, Steve Gardner, and Mary Beth Gardner; 7 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ardaches Hagopian; her second husband, Bob Farhaden; her parents; daughter, Christiane Andel in 2001; and grandchildren, Christiane Weatherwax-Minatra in 2000 and Anne Marie Weatherwax in 1968.

Memorial Prayer will be held Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 11:30 AM at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2500 Grand Ave., Middletown, with Reverend Dr. Christos B. Christakis officiating.
