Robert Hutson Williams

Robert Hutson Williams, 92, of Monroe, Ohio, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at The Woodlands of Middletown. He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on November 18, 1921 to parents Sidney D. and Helen (Hutson) Williams. He grew up in Canton, Ohio before attending Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University, where he earned a BS and a Master's Degree in metallurgy. During World War II, Robert served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, stationed in England as an intelligence officer on a B-24 base.
After his marriage to Marilyn MacGregor in 1947, Robert began his 32-year career with General Motors, working in Rochester, New York, and Warren, Ohio. He retired in 1980 from the Packard Electric Division.
Robert was a trustee at the First Presbyterian Church in Warren and an active member of the YMCA, where he was an accomplished squash player. Robert also loved to play bridge, and he was a member of the American Contract Bridge League.
Before moving to Monroe, Robert and Marilyn lived for 19 years in Geauga County, near Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons, Dr. Gregory S. (Elena) Williams & Dr. Keith D. Williams; daughter, Paula (Andrew) Williams Butler; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Steve) Jennings, Lydia Williams, Forrest Williams, Annabelle Williams & Brian Butler; and great grandson, Henry Jennings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Hamlen; and brother, Sidney D. Williams, Jr.
A family graveside service will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, with Reverend Gregory Gibson officiating. For those who wish to honor his memory, the family invites contributions to the Endowment Fund of the National Packard Museum, 1899 Mahoning N.W., Warren, OH 44483 or to Hospice of Miami Valley, 46 N. Detroit St., Suite B, Xenia, OH 45385.
