Raymond L Nicholas

Ray L. Nicholas, 82, of Middletown, died Sunday, October 5, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Middletown on September 13, 1926 to parents Leroy B. and Mildred (Westerman) Nicholas.

Ray worked as a firefighter for the Middletown Fire Department, retiring after 30 years. Following his retirement, he worked at Holy Trinity for over 20 years. He served his country in the United States Navy. Ray was a member of Holy Family Parish, was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus #1610, and was a bingo caller at St. John's.

Mr. Nicholas is survived by his daughter, Sandy (Chuck) Witters; sons, Paul (Barbara) Nicholas, Dan (Audrey) Nicholas, and Jeff (Linda) Nicholas; brothers, David (Jane) Nicholas and Ron Nicholas; sisters-in-law, Esther (Jim) Greenwell and Helen (Earl) Schultz; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Wayne) Miller, Michele (John) Baber, Melinda Morgan, Michael (Trish) Witters, Christina (Tommy) Hawkins, Benjamin (Jackie) Nicholas, Sarah Beth Nicholas and Jason Nicholas; and twelve great grandchildren, Julie, Jeffrey, Brooke, Brianna, Tori, Thomas, Emily, Ellie, Nicholas, Vaughan, Cohen & Noah.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Susan C. Botos Nicholas and his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 13, 2008 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church, 201 Clark Street, Middletown with Monsignor Paul Metzger as celebrant. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with K of C services at 7:00 PM. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
