Dorothy Mccabe Boxwell

Dorothy McCabe Boxwell, 88, of Monroe, died Thursday, November 10, 2005, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. She was born on October 28, 1917 in Middletown, where she lived most of her life until moving to Mt. Pleasant Place in 1993. She was married to W. Homer Boxwell for almost 62 years and was devoted to her family.

Being a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, she served as a Nursery Home Visitor for six years and was active in the United Methodist Women´s group there. Mrs. Boxwell worked for the Red Cross for 10 years as a volunteer Gray Lady at Middletown Regional Hospital and also was chairman of the Junior Gray Ladies. She was the Resident Representative for the Interior Design Committee for Mt. Pleasant Place Apartments and helped in selecting furniture, fabric, carpet, and appliances.

Mrs. Boxwell is survived by daughters, Rebecca (Thomas) Maxwell of Richmond, VA, Jennifer (Robert) Townsend of Columbus, OH; eight grandchildren, Laura (Richard) Maxwell Simmons of Clifton, VA, Kathryn (Dr. Kevin) Maxwell Van Cott of Lincoln, NE, Rev. Michael (Maria-Elena) Maxwell of Herndon, VA, Jacki (Jason) Nein Daniels of Middletown, Jodi (Michael) Nein Robertson, Jeff Nein, Peter Townsend, and Roz Townsend, all of Columbus, OH; and seven great grandchildren, Thomas, Rachael, & Grace Van Cott, Alex & Sarah Kate Simmons, and Benjamin & Zoe Maxwell.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, W. Homer Boxwell; her parents, Elmer Charles and Maude (Fry) McCabe; and two brothers, William C. McCabe and Robert McCabe.

Memorial Service will be held Monday, November 14, 2005 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 120 S. Broad St., Middletown. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2-4 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., (at Bonita Dr.) Middletown. Private interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
