Donald Eugene Garrett

Donald Eugene Garrett, 79, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at his residence. He was born in West Middletown, on April 5, 1929, to parents Clark and Carrie (Johnson) Garrett.

Don graduated from Trenton High School and served his country in the United States Army. He was employed by Voith Sultzer (formerly Manchester Machine) for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was an active member of Monroe United Methodist Church, where he was active in Good Fellowship and held many positions until his health failed. He was also a member of High Point Masonic Lodge #771 where he served as Master in 1982. Don was an avid fisherman and master woodcarver, winning many ribbons in world competitions.

Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia C. (Hawkins) Garrett; two daughters, Dona (James) Gardner Klein and Tonia (Steve) McDonough; grandchildren, Carolyn (Nathan) Gardner Firth, Christopher (Anne) Gardner and Lyndi (Jeremy) McDonough Uitto; great grandchildren, Kennedy Firth and Isaac Garrett Firth; sister, Ruth Baker; special friends, David & Shirley Hall and John & Jenny MacDonald; as well as numerous other family & friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clark Garrett; and sisters, Helen Craft and Ruby Blanton.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Frank Wentzke, Dr. Dryk VanValkenburg, Dr. Mary Ellen Gaeke, Dr. Richard Gaeke and Dr. Doug Gaker.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 11:00 am at Monroe United Methodist Church, 206 East Ave., Monroe with Reverend Bradford G. Olson officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Masonic services at 7:30 pm. Interment will be at Mound Cemetery with military honors conducted by Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
