Everett E. Metzger

July 24, 1931 — May 10, 2018

Everett Edward Metzger, 86, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2018. Born in West Bend, Iowa, Everett was the son of Samuel and Lina Metzger and the youngest of eight children. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He married Annette Darlene Schmidt in 1958 in Fort Madison, Iowa; later moved to Middletown, Ohio where they continued to raise their five children while instilling a strong work ethic, a sense of humor and immeasurable love. Annette preceded him in death in 1994 after 36 precious years of marriage. Everett worked for the Department of Energy at the Miamisburg Mound as a quality assurance specialist where he retired after 30 years of service. Additionally, Everett was the owner and operator of the Metzger’s Dairy Clipper, for which he was recognized by many in town as the adored Ice Cream Man.

He was blessed to find love again with Lois Pratt Harcsa Brooks, his cherished wife of the past 22 years. Together they have shared wonderful memories while traveling to visit their combined families and spending winters in Ellenton, Florida, enjoying the sunshine & playing golf. Everett will be remembered as a wonderful father to Julie (Eddie), Tom (Amy), Jim (Silke), Bill (Tammy) and Chris and stepfather to Ric (Pennie) and Suellen (Rob) and as the storytelling, supportive Grandpa to 13 grandchildren, as well as, Lois’ 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He attended Mass weekly, enjoyed reading the comics, an occasional day at the casino & cheering on the Reds’ baseball team. He respectfully flew the U.S. flag and traveled back to attend his USS Tingey and West Bend High School reunions. Everett began each morning with a cup of coffee, each meal with a prayer and ended every evening with an “I love you.”

Visitation will be at the Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at Holy Trinity Church at 10:00 am with Father Ed Pratt as celebrant, immediately followed by graveside services at Woodside Cemetery and then a Celebration of Life at Holy Trinity Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties, 5940 Long Meadow Dr., Franklin, Ohio 45005.
